A Different Approach to Raising Capital

At Startup TNT, we understand that accessing capital is the biggest hurdle for startups. That's why we organize 30+ Angel Syndicates in Western Canada per year, to invest in both new and existing startups. We strongly believe that local startups stand to benefit from raising capital from local investors. We also believe that building companies and investing in startups is more enjoyable when done as a team, with friends. And we can confidently say that we have the most fun doing it.

Why raise capital with Startup TNT?

We are approachable

  • Many of our investors are writing their first Angel check with Startup TNT

  • We work to provide constructive feedback to all companies going through due diligence with us

  • We work together with the top companies to structure a deal that makes sense for all parties

We do a LOT of deals

  • We know what it takes to close a deal and we work directly with investors to get to “YES”

  • We fund around 10% of the deals we screen, an order of magnitude higher success rate for entrepreneurs than most VC funds

  • We syndicate many small cheques into a single investment so you have a clean cap table with the benefit of a broad investment network

We are a community

  • At our summits, entrepreneurs meet new investors, new business partners, and new employees

  • We have a network of business professionals to offer you advice, support, and mentorship whenever they can

Summit Eligibility

  • Company stage:

    • Pre-series A companies (both pre- and post-revenue) are eligible

    • Typical round size is $500k - $2.5M

  • Geographic location: Companies must have their headquarters in Alberta, or British Columbia. Please apply to the stream that most closely matches the location of your headquarters.

  • Participation requirements: Companies must be able to engage with investors for an 8-week due diligence process that could include 4 or more investor meetings.

What They Say About Us

Scott Jenkins, ZS2 Technologies

The double bonus has been the connections and people involved with Startup TNT. We’ve had multiple investors who have been watching us, who are now making introductions to developers, residential builders, and other cleantech companies that have materials that are super interesting. TNT fed into connecting with Avatar Innovations, which led to XPRIZE, which helped us tap into a whole community of like-minded people.

John Minchin, Spot Dog Walking

The Summit couldn’t have come at a better time for us. We managed to close our fundraising round in August 2021, just as so many new Covid dog owners were preparing to return to work. The investment allowed us to scale from a 1-person team (so just me) to 5 employees, plus we’ve managed to increase revenue by more than 2.5 times since.

The whole TNT program was really good for us - it was really like an accelerator for us. Not only did it connect us with really great people, it was also a great introduction/education on how to talk to investors. It was really friendly and the TNT team was great for guiding us on tasks like organizing our data room, what financials to share, what questions investors would ask, etc.

We used the Summit to kick off our financing round and raised $2.2M. The process made us more prepped to continue doing fundraising post-Summit.

Winning the Summit was like rocket fuel for us. Not only did it help raise awareness of our company and increase our credibility in the investment community, it also helped expedite the process of closing our first round of fundraising. We also did a side deal with investors that we met through the Summit. Those investors joined our board, and have become great advisors for us

You meet with investors, doing due diligence, explaining your ideas, site visits, etc. You get to educate people on who you are, what you’re building, and your why. It’s important because you get time to build the trust needed
